We all know that Germany is a country abundant in both cultural and natural attractions. In the previous guides I have already presented you innumerable aspects relating to the visitor attractions and landmarks, natural jewels, wonderful cities, architectural landmarks, entertainment options, festivals and other sights of the country. Below I will present you the most beautiful cathedrals in Germany.

These cathedrals are the following: Cologne Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Peter in Regensburg, the Cathedral of Our Lady in Aachen, Erfurt Cathedral and Dresden Cathedral. Visit at least one of these astonishing buildings, but if you have the necessary time, visit all of them. You will not regret it.                           

Cologne Cathedral

Named the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Mary, the fascinating Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is one of the top visitor attractions of the county. It is not surprising at all if we think of the beauty and architectural details of the cathedral. This breathtaking World Heritage Site attracts innumerable visitors every year. The Roman Catholic cathedral is undoubtedly the most beautiful and best-known religious building of Germany.

The Cathedral of St. Peter in Regensburg

Regensburg Cathedral or the Cathedral of St. Peter is another excellent example of religious sights in Germany. It is considered to be Bavaria’s most important example of Gothic architecture. It is also the most significant landmark of the city, attracting numerous visitors every year. Its Gothic features and details make the cathedral one of the most beautiful cathedrals of Germany.

The Cathedral of Our Lady in Aachen

Another breathtaking cathedral is the wonderful Cathedral of Our Lady in Aachen. It is also known as the “Imperial Cathedral” of Germany. The religious building is considered to be Northern Europe’s oldest cathedral. Aachen chapel has a historical importance, being the place of coronation for more than 40 German kings and queens. Today the cathedral is a World Heritage Site and a major landmark of Aachen.

Erfurt Cathedral

The beautiful Cathedral of St. Mary in Erfurt is another excellent example of religious buildings in Germany. Located on a hillside, the cathedral dominates the skyline of the city. It is a 1.200 years old structure which was rebuilt and renovated several times over the centuries. This cathedral is with no doubt one of the most beautiful of the entire country.

Dresden Cathedral

Last, but not least beautiful is the famous Dresden Cathedral or the Cathedral of Holy Trinity. The Roman Catholic cathedral dominates the historic centre of Dresden and it is one of its major landmarks. Located near the other important landmark of Dresden, the Semperoper, the cathedral is one of the most beautiful in the entire country.
