Beautiful cities along the Main River

The Main River is a very important river of Germany. It is a 527 m long river which flows through three German states: Hesse, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Its basin area is over 27.000 km2. As the river is very long, numerous cities can be found along it. Frankfurt am Main, Würzburg, Wertheim, Selingenstadt, Offenbach and Miltenberg are just some of the most beautiful cities along the Main River. If you visit any of the states through which the river flows, I suggest you to visit at least one of the previously mentioned cities. These urban travel destinations are very popular and include numerous fantastic visitor attractions.

Frankfurt am Main

Perhaps the most beautiful city along the Main River is Frankfurt am Main (or simply Frankfurt). Frankfurt is also one of the most beautiful and most popular German cities. Visiting this astonishing city is with no doubt a memorable experience. Among the most astonishing landmarks of the city are: St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, the Römer, the Alter Oper, St. Paul’s Church and so on. Frankfurt is a must-visit city.

Würzburg

Another breathtaking city on the Main River is Würzburg. The city is home to innumerable visitor attractions which make it a top tourist destination: the beautiful Würzburg Residenz, the Old Main Bridge, the Marienberg Fortress, the University, Würzburg Cathedral, numerous museums, art galleries and other sights. If you visit the northern region of Bavaria, you can not miss this wonderful city.

Wertheim

Wertheim am Main (or Wertheim) is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is famous for its wonderful castle, its medieval old town and vineyards. Besides the old Wertheim Castle, the city has other landmarks, too, including the wonderful half-timbered houses in the old town, the Stiftskirche, the Kilianskapelle, the Engelsbrunnen and others. Visiting Wertheim is like stepping back in past.

Selingenstadt

Another city abundant in half-timbered buildings is the beautiful Selingenstadt. It is considered one of the oldest towns of Germany. Besides the half-timbered houses in the old town, Selingenstadt also includes other visitor attractions, such as the Einhard-Basilica, the former Benedictine abbey and so on.

Offenbach

Situated in the state of Hesse, the beautiful Offenbach am Main (Offenbach) is a very attractive city. It is a pretty community which is worth visiting. Among the highlights of Offenbach are the following sights: Büsingpalais, Büsingpark, the astonishing Isenburg Palace, Wilhelmsplatz, the interesting German Leather Museum and others.

Miltenberg

Located in Bavaria, the city of Miltenberg is another beautiful city along the Main River. Famous for its breathtaking old half-timbered houses, the city is very attractive for tourists. The historic city’s major highlight is its old city centre where visitors can admire the previously mentioned houses.
