Bonn is one of the oldest cities of Germany. Today it is the second official residence of the President of Germany. Located on the Rhine River, the city is one of the most beautiful in Germany. It is a popular tourist destination, being home to numerous tourist attractions, including the Poppelsdorf Palace, Bonn Minster, the Old City Hall, Godesburg Fortress, numerous museums, further architectural jewels and open spaces. Beethoven House

Undoubtedly the top Beethoven related attraction of Bonn is the Beethoven House. It is the birthplace of the famous composer. It is a memorial site, housing a museum and a cultural institution serving various purposes. The birthplace of Beethoven can be found at Bonngasse 20. This is the building which houses the museum. The museum was opened in 1893, during the second chamber music festival and was extended several times over the years.

Today the museum is a popular tourist attraction of Bonn and houses the world’s largest Beethoven collection. Between November and March the museum can be visited Mondays to Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00. (January 2014) The buildings at Bonngasse 18 and 24 to 26 accommodate the Beethoven archive, a research centre. The research centre includes a collection relating to Beethoven, a library and a chamber music hall.

The Beethovenhalle is actually a concert hall. It is the third hall in Bonn to bear the name of the famous composer, Ludwig van Beethoven. The first one was built in 1845, the second was built in 1870 and the actual one was completed in 1959. It is famous for its excellent acoustic.

The concert hall is important for the preservation of the composer’s musical tradition. It is also home to the Beethoven Orchester Bonn. Besides it hosts different exhibitions, conferences, parties and various events.

One of the most important landmarks of Bonn is the Beethoven Monument. It stands on the Münsterplatz and was unveiled on 12 August 1845. It was sculpted to honor the 75th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. It is a large bronze statue which is one of the most photographed landmarks of the city.
