One of the most beautiful cities of the North-Rhine Westphalia region, Bielefeld is a fantastic place to visit. It can be an excellent tourist destination, being home to innumerable landmarks and visitor attractions. The main attractions of the city are the architectural jewels, including the Sparrenburg Castle, the Altstädter Nicolaikirche, the Old City Hall, the Neustädter Marienkirche, the Kunsthalle Bielefeld and so on. The Sparrenburg Castle

The most characteristic landmark of Bielefeld is the astonishing Sparrenburg Castle. This restored fortress is an important tourist attraction. Some parts of the Sparrenburg Castle can be visited all year around and the entry is free. The rest of the fantastic castle can be visited every day from April to October. A major attraction of the city is the annual Sparrenburgfest which occurs on the last weekend of July.

The Altstädter Nicolaikirche

The oldest church of the city is the Altstädter Nicolaikirche. It is a tall Gothic church which was founded in 1236. Later, in the 14th century, the church was enlarged. Damaged during the World War II, the church needed reconstruction works. The carved altar of the church is considered its major treasure and there is also a museum inside of it which presents the history of the church.

The Old City Hall

Also named the Altes Rathaus, the beautiful City Hall of Bielefeld was built in 1904. It still serves the same function. The façade of the wonderful building features different elements of several architectural styles, including Renaissance and Gothic. The office of the mayor can be found here, in the Old City Hall, but the administration of the city is housed in the New City Hall, adjacent to the old one.

The Neustädter Marienkirche

The largest church of Bielefeld is the beautiful Neustädter Marienkirche. The Gothic church dates back in 1293. This religious building is considered to be the most important historical structure of the city. The Marienkirche is very popular among tourists, attracting numerous visitors every year.

Kunsthalle Bielefeld

For the lovers of art Bielefeld has to offer a fantastic modern and contemporary art museum. Built in 1968, the building of museum is situated on the south-western edge of the city’s old town. It includes some excellent modern art collections. The museum offers excellent guided tours, it includes a library and also offers teaching activities for children.
