The beautiful state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is situated in northern Germany. Its capital is the city of Schwerin. After the World War II, two historic regions, Mecklenburg and Vorpommern were merged, forming the actual state.

The region presents a beautiful coastline (of the Baltic Sea), some magnificent islands belonging administratively to the state. Another natural jewel of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the Mecklenburg Lake District. Besides, there are numerous fantastic urban destinations and gorgeous cultural attractions within the state. The city of Schwerin

The breathtaking capital city of the state, Schwerin is a major tourist destination. The amazing city is the second largest settlement of the state. It presents some astonishing landmarks and visitor attractions. Among the major landmarks of the city are Schwerin Cathedral, the Schelfkirche, the Town Hall, the Alter Garten square, Schwerin Castle and so on. The major landmark of the city is the magnificent Schwerin Schloss (Castle). Today it houses the seat of the state parliament. It has a fantastic setting, being situated on an island in the Schweriner See (Schwerin Lake). The beautiful castle was first mentioned in 973. It was reconstructed and restored several times over the centuries. The castle and its gardens are major visitor attractions of the city.

Mecklenburg Lake District

Also known as “the land of a thousand lakes”, this magnificent natural region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern occupies a large surface. It includes numerous beautiful lakes and canals. The largest lake which lies entirely within the country, Lake Müritz is also part of the breathtaking Lake District. The region occupies the central and southern part of the state and it is extremely popular among visitors. It is an astonishing natural jewel of the state and of the entire country.

The islands of Usedom and Rügen

As I already mentioned it, there are some beautiful islands which belong administratively to the state. The islands of Usedom and Rügen are major tourist destinations, presenting some fantastic resorts. Due to its gorgeous beaches and resorts, Usedom is one of the major holiday destinations of the country. Rügen is also a very popular destination for holiday makers. It also presents fantastic beaches and great resorts.

Other seaside resorts

Other fantastic seaside resorts of the state are Graal-Müritz, Boltenhagen, Heiligendamm and so on. One of the best resorts is Boltenhagen. It is extremely popular among families due to its shallow beaches and fine water. It is situated about 30 km of Lübeck, offering its visitors great restaurants and gorgeous spa facilities.
